Vox Sambou

Vox Sambou comes from Limbé, Haiti. He writes and performs in Creole, French, English, Spanish and Portugues. He is a founding member of Montreal-based hip-hop collective, Nomadic Massive. He performed across North America at the Kennedy center in Washington; Grand Performances in Los Angeles; Le Printemps de Bourges, France, Chile, Brasil, Senegal, Mali and Burkina Faso, Colombia, Brasil, Morocco, Spain and USA. His music is a fusion of traditional rhythms of Haiti and Afro-Latin elements on afrobeat, reggae and hip-hop. As a songwriter, he recorded Lakay in 2008, Dyasporafriken in April 2013 and The Brasil Session in 2016, accompanied by musicians from different backgrounds. Vox Sambou is a committed musician who is not afraid to denounce injustice, social imbalances and inequities. He sings in Creole, English, French and Spanish. He holds a BA in Psychology and Anthropology and has been directing for more than 10 years now, The Youth House of the Côte-des-Neiges, a non-profit organization whose mandate is to prevent delinquency among teenagers in the district of Montreal’s Côte-des Neiges. Vox Sambou is crucially involved in the achievement of educational and community projects based in Limbé, Haiti. He is a founding member of Solid’Ayiti, an artists and activists initiative working for a long-term solidarity between Montreal and movements fighting for social justice in Haiti, according to the principles of self-sufficiency, education, decentralization and reforestation. At the fourth edition of the Mundial Montreal conference (a conference dedicated to world music) which was held in November 2014, Vox Sambou was awarded the Stingray Music Star prize, which presented him with the following introduction “This year’s winner is the wonderful Vox Sambou who, with his traditional Haitian music style fused with reggae, Afrobeat and hip hop, litterally lit the Café Campus on fire.” He has been writing and performing for over 10 years. Founding member of the international crew Nomadic Massive Montreal Hip Hop band, voted Best of Montreal since 2009 in the Montreal Mirror Performing and recording since 2005.
